Young Professionals of Grenada Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
In 2017, 36 percent of voting-age Grenadians were between the ages of 18 and 35. At the same time, youth unemployment stood at 39 percent in the same year. This represents a vast untapped potential.
Under the Integrated Climate Change Adaptation Strategies (ICCAS) project, implemented by the Government of Grenada in partnership with GIZ, the German International Cooperation, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), climate resilience has been mainstreamed across various sectors in Grenada. However, it was recognised that youth engagement needed to be emphasized as a point of focus in order to similarly mainstream climate finance as an issue touching all aspects of Grenadian society. Therefore, the Young Professional Climate Finance Program (YPCFP), implemented by the Caribbean Youth Environment Network in Grenada (CYEN Grenada) with support from the Getting Grenada GCF Ready (3G) project - through the Government of Grenada and GIZ - aims to encourage youth participation in climate finance issues specific to Grenada’s climate change strategy so as to empower them to contribute more substantially to the country’s climate resilience efforts.
The Young Professional Climate Finance Program Seeks To
...young professionals about Grenada’s climate finance strategy and how this links to the country’s overall climate change mitigation and adaptation priorities.
...and train young professionals with substantial baseline knowledge in terms of adaptation and mitigation actions specific to implementation of such actions and petitioning for resources;
...young professionals with senior level experts and consultants as mentors in their similar field of interest;
...a database of junior-level consultants to whom short-term contracts can be awarded to work on climate finance related activities, including but not limited to concept note and proposal writing for climate change related projects.
"When I first heard of the Young Professionals Climate Finance Program I had mixed feelings about the outcome of participating in such an initiative. I knew the program by concept would be very useful to my professional development as an environmental economist; but at the same time, I thought it would be just another talk-shop with general information on climate change.
The program surpassed my expectations by far with its relevance, practicality and hands-on approach to drafting climate finance proposals. The facilitators were very knowledgeable but knew how to clearly convey the information in an organized format. Working in teams to develop project proposals really helped us connect with the material in a realistic manner. Overall I give the program six out of five stars. This program has been very useful to me as a member of the Caribbean Youth Environment Network, working on the many projects and activities that the group coordinates."
"When I was a clever I wanted to change the world, now I am wise I want to change
"Having recently moved to Grenada in shifting my career into the field of Environmental Conservation, this Program has surpassed the professional and personal expectations I had of it when I signed up. I've been impressed with the caliber of experts that delivered the Program- who acted more as coaches than facilitators -and so willingly shared their rich experience and knowledge. The Program has been a remarkable outlet for advice, support and peer relationship building; and I'm grateful for the new network of colleagues and partners that have been opened up to me. I definitely have no regrets about participating. I am eager to apply all I've learnt to the various organisations I am apart of, to support the essential environmental and sustainable development efforts in the Eastern Caribbean where I work, as well as my home island of Trinidad and Tobago."
"A very thorough, practical and engaging approach to writing compelling proposals to successfully access financing."
